Stamping: The Bare Necessities

When I first started papercrafting a little over a year ago, I was overwhelmed with the sheer volume of products that were out there.  I kind of went crazy thinking I needed to have a complete set of craft supplies before I could really start creating any cards.  That is most definitely not the case especially if you’re living on a budget and have a tiny apartment in the city like me!!  You can start with just these bare necessities – cardstock, paper trimmer, stamp set, acrylic block, ink pad, scissors, adhesive and inspiration.  After you’ve gotten a feel for what kind of stamping/projects you want to do, then you should go nuts and expand your supplies to your heart’s content to fulfill your vision!  It will definitely save you from wasting a lot of time, money and sheer frustration!

After much trial and error across numerous products, I would recommend the below for your starter kit (totaling around $100 if you purchase everything at retail but make sure to check out any of the big box craft retailers – Joann’s/Michael’s/A.C. Moore/Hobby Lobby – for some great discounts on some of these basic papercrafting supplies):

  1. Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb. Cardstock
  2. Fiskars Surecut Paper Trimmer
  3. Mama Elephant Clear Stamp Set – Water Blooms
  4. Fiskars Compact Stamp Press
  5. Hero Arts Ink Cubes – Quiet Morning
  6. Hero Arts Ink Cubes – Summer Splash
  7. Hero Arts Ink Cubes – Blackboard
  8. EK Success Honey Bee Nonstick Scissors
  9. Tombow Stamp Runner

Inspiration can be found just about anywhere you look from your day-to-day life to pinterest to Etsy.  But my favorite, more focused, inspiration comes from the below bloggers who are always amazing me with their talent and teaching me about new products and techniques.

  1. Jennifer McGuire Ink Blog
  2. Kristina Werner Blog
  3. Simon Says Stamp Blog

I hope this post eases any concerns of new stampers who feel like they need a large budget to get into this wonderful hobby.  Happy Crafting!!
